The 47RH was developed based on the 46RH, but with many improvements and revisions that rendered the transmission suitable for Cummins turbodiesel applications. Strength wise, I think they're roughly the same stock-that's why the 2nd digit of the type number is 7 on both of them. I also think that my RPMs would be to high with just a 3 speed. The 47RH and 47RE are similar in many fundamental ways, but the main difference is how the governor pressure control works.
